Youth Programs
One of our focus areas is helping youth between the ages of17-24. Sometimes life deals you a series of circumstances that you can’t alwayscontrol. We want to help youth in this age range get back on track and get asolid start to, hopefully, a rewarding job and career.
Candidates for the WIOA youth program must not be attendingschool and have one or more of the following barriers:
- School dropout
- In the age range of compulsory school attendance, but has not attended school for at least the most recent complete school year or calendar quarter.
- Be a recipient of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent who is low-income and either:
- Basic skills deficient
- Or, an English language learner
- Youth subject to the juvenile or adult justice system
- Homeless individual that could be a runaway youth, in foster care or aged out of the foster care system or in an out-of-home placement or other circumstances
- Pregnant or parenting
- Have a disability
- Low-income individual who needs help to complete and education program, or secure and hold employment
What we provide in our program consists of a combination ofthe following elements:
- Tutoring, study skills, and instruction leading to completions of secondary schooling including dropout prevention strategies
- Alternative secondary school offerings
- Paid and unpaid work experience that have academic and occupational education as a component of work experience
- Occupational skill training
- Education offered with workforce preparation activities and traning for a specific occupation
- Leadership development opportunities
- Supportive services
- Mentoring for at least 12 months after the youth completes the program
- Guidance and counseling, including drug and alcohol counseling and referral to counseling as appropriate
- Financial literacy education
- Entrepreneurial skills training
- Services that provide labor market and employment information about in-demand industry sectors
- Activities to help youth prepare for and transition to post-secondary education and training
